       PROVERBS   CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

NKJV vs.1-9...A good name is to be chosen rather that great riches, Loving favor rather than silver and gold.

Has anyone noticed that all who knew you, will not let you forget the stupid things or the sins that you did when you were younger? Or any stupid thing that you did even yesterday? This is why we are not to judge anyone. But we do.

The rich and the poor have this in common, The LORD is the maker of them all. A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself (in other words, MAKE SURE YOUR SIN WILL FIND YOU OUT, for I would rather judge me than have our Father to), But the simple pass on and are punished. By humility and the fear of the LORD Are riches and honor and life. Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse; He who guards his soul will be far from them. Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it. The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower is servant to the lender (He has told us not to be a borrower, but we did not listen). He who sows iniquity will reap sorrow, And the rod of his anger will fail. He who has a generous eye will be blessed, For he gives of his bread to the poor.

MSG...A sterling reputation is better than striking it rich, a gracious spirit is better than money in the bank. The rich and the poor shake hands as equals...God made them both! A prudent person sees trouble coming and ducks, a simpleton walks in blindly and is clobbered. The payoff for meekness (meekness is not weakness, it is wisdom used to sustain us) and Fear of God is plenty and honor and a satisfying life. The perverse travel a dangerous road, potholed and mud-slick, if you know what's good for you, stay clear of it. Point your kids in the right direction...when they're old they won't be lost.

After raising four children, I believe that we are to raise our children as well as we can..teach them; morals when they are young, to have and show respect for their elders, to be honest, to study hard, to find their gifts when they are still young and have dreams, Lead them to Christ and pray for their salvation...then let them go when they are around the age of eighteen or nineteen. I don't mean to kick them out, I mean stand by them but don't pull your hair out when they don't do exactly what you expect. Let them make choices and when you agree with their choices prod them on, when you don't, tell them. Just let them breathe and pray that they will do well, for when you do, they will never forget it. Try to remember yourself at their age and know that you made it through and you are now serving the LORD. When you got older you remembered what you were taught. When they are older these very things will be there to instill into your grandchildren. And the things that you messed up on, they will have the direction to not do the same with their children.

The poor are always ruled over by the rich, so don't borrow and put yourself under their power. Whoever sows sin reaps weeds, and bullying anger sputters into nothing.

I have had to pull up so many weeds out of my garden, as I am sure many of you, for we have sinned much, but I am thankful that my Father has made me into a good gardener. I watch it more closely now, for any unwanted weeds).  Generous hands are blessed hands because they give bread to the poor. (LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON/DAUGHTER!

NKJV vs.10-12...Cast out the scoffer, and contention will leave; Yes, strife and reproach will cease. (A scoffer is a person who rebels against rules and guidelines. When he rebels, there will be strife and division. Get rid of him and it will stop). He who loves purity of heart And has grace on his lips (he who only sees the good and speaks with love), The king will be his friend. The eyes of the LORD preserves knowledge, But He overthrows the words of the faithless. (The LORD will keep us in the right way of understanding, and anyone who tries to cause trouble He will stop).

MSG...Kick out the troublemakers and things will quiet down, You need a break from bickering and griping! God loves the pure hearted and well spoken, good leaders also delight in their friendship. God guards knowledge with a passion but He'll have nothing to do with deception.

NKJV vs.13...The lazy man says, "There is a lion outside! I shall be slain in the streets!" (A person who just won't work will come up with some pretty lame excuses).

MSG...The loafer says,"There's a lion on the the loose! If I go out I'll be eaten alive!"

NKJV vs.14...The mouth of an immoral woman is a deep pit; He who is abhorred by the LORD will fall there.

MSG...The mouth of a whore is a bottomless pit, you'll fall in that pit if you're on the outs with God.

NKJV vs.15...Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of correction will drive it far from him.

MSG...Young people are prone to foolishness and fads, the cure comes through tough-minded discipline (TOUGH LOVE).

NKJV vs.16-21...He who oppresses the poor to increase his riches, And he who gives to the rich will surely come to poverty. Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise, And apply your heart to my knowledge. For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you; Let them all be fixed upon your lips, So that your trust may be in the LORD; I have instructed you today, even you. Have I not written to you excellent things of counsels and knowledge, That I may make you know the certainty of the words of truth, That you may answer words of truth To those who send to you?

When we put these words of wisdom into the garden of our hearts, and meditate on them continually, we will have great success and the abundant life that Jesus came to give. These truths will leave you with a peace that surpassess all understanding for when you believe His words, you will have confidence and trust Him.

MSG...Exploit the poor or glad-hand the rich...whichever, you'll end up the poorer for it. Listen carefully to my wisdom, take to heart what I can teach you, You'll treasure its sweetness deep within, you'll give it bold expression in your speech To make sure your foundation is trust in God, I'm laying it all out right now just for you. I'm giving you thirty sterling principles...tested guidelines to live by (this one, I am not understanding because there are only twenty nine sterling principles, in Proverbs 22 and there are thirty one Proverbs).  Believe me...these are truths that work and will keep you accountable to those who sent you.

NKJV vs.22-28...Do not rob the poor because he is poor, Nor oppress the afflicted at the gate;(do not be taking advantage of anyone because you think they are beneath you), For the LORD will plead their cause, And plunder the soul of those who plunder them. Make no friendship with an angry man, And with a furious man do not go, Lest you learn his ways And set snare for your soul.

Be very careful at who you listen to. Hear their words and what they are saying and if they are tearing down, stay away from them, for this is how satan gets control over us. he uses others to allow their spirits of anger, discord, strife and unforgiveness to get on us, and into our souls. We must be very careful of who we hang with.

Do not be one of those who shakes hands in a pledge, One of those who is surety for debts; If you have nothing with which to pay, Why should he take away your bed from under you (The best way is to pay cash for everything. Be careful of how much debt you have. Make sure it does not exceed your income)? Do not remove the ancient landmark Which your fathers have set. (I believe this is going on in Israel today. But this land belongs to God. He will give back all that was taken from His children).

MSG...Don't walk on the poor just because they're poor, and don't use your position to crush the weak, Because God will come to their defense, the life you took, He'll take from you and give back to them. Don't hang out with angry people; don't keep company with hotheads. Bad temper is contagious...don't get infected. Don't gamble on the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, hocking your house against a lucky chance. The time will come when you have to pay up, you'll be left with nothing but the shirt on your back. Don't stealthily move back the boundary lines staked out long ago by your ancestors.

NKJV vs.29...Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men.~MSG...Observe people who are good at their work, skilled workers are always in demand and admired; they don't take a back seat to anyone.

Bottom line; These Proverbs started with the importance of having a good name...going into how you treat the poor and then raising your kids the right way. Then he tells how we are to do the Words of God and use the right knowledge with them, and not to take advantage of or use other people, especially the down and out. and then back to a good name, because he excels in his work and important people will notice him. These are about integrity and character of which we must have to delight in the Lord, that He may give us the desires of our heart. He wants His children to rise up above the standards that the world system has set.

Pastor Carolyn, I am praying they will start to teach the book of Proverbs in Church Sunday School, Bible Study, and in all Christian Schools. Our children need wisdom. We All Need Wisdom! Wisdom will add years to our lives.
